Inflammatory joint disease affecting the spine. It occurs predominantly in young males and produces pain and stiffness as a result of inflammation of the sacroiliac, intervertebral, and costovertebral joints. Etiology is unknown.

  • Expression of macrophages from ankylosing spondylitis patients treated with IFN-gamma

    Macrophages were derived from the peripheral blood of 8 ankylosing spondylitis patients and 9 healthy control subjects over 7 days with the use of granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor. Cells were stimulated for 24 hours with interferon or were left untreated for 24 hours.
