Research Travel Grants

All entries are subject to the NextBio Contest Rules* as described on the NextBio blog.

*As an exception, the travel grants are not restricted to US applicants only. International applicants who fulfill all other criteria may also apply.

What are the travel grants?

NextBio is offering student travel grants of up to $900 to be used to attend the conference of your choice. Three grants of $900, $600 and $500 will be disbursed to the first, second, and third place winners, respectively.

Who can apply?

The travel grant contest is open to currently enrolled undergraduate students, graduate students and post-doctoral scholars.

How to apply:

We review applications and announce grant awards twice a year. Please see the deadlines below for dates.

To apply, submit:

• An essay (up to 800 words) describing how NextBio tools have been beneficial to your research.
• A completed application form in MS-Word or PDF format.

Essays must include a clear research focus, and a minimum of one figure based on NextBio data. Examples of acceptable figures include exported images from NextBio apps, screenshots for specific query results, or figures based on data exported from NextBio. All text, references, figures and any supporting information must be submitted as a single MS Word or PDF document.

Deadline:

All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m PST on March 1, 2012 to be considered. Incomplete or partial applications will not be evaluated. Recipients will be notified of their grant via e-mail by April 20, 2012.

Criteria:

• Recipients will be selected based on the scientific value of their essays as judged by a panel of NextBio scientists.
• If awarded a travel grant, the conference presentation funded must acknowledge NextBio as a funding source on the publication by including the official NextBio logo on the poster/ talk.
• Funds must be used towards attending a scientific conference within one calendar year of receiving the travel grant award.
• Winners must submit evidence of conference registration and a copy of the funded presentation to NextBio. Additional receipts, if requested, must be provided.
• NextBio will retain the right to publish any of the travel grant essays submitted, in full or partially, on the NextBio blog or in other NextBio communications.
